Our mission is to bridge the gap in rehabilitation services across Kansas by providing holistic, client-centered support for individuals transitioning from incarceration back into their communities. Through a structured two-tier program that begins six months before release and continues through post-release reintegration, we deliver education, mentorship, and practical life skills tailored to each individual’s goals. We are committed to reducing recidivism, promoting personal growth, and fostering long-term success by providing a safe and supportive environment where clients can learn, plan, and thrive.

RI ensures a customized approach to their support to help fill in gaps in individual's release plans to prevent unneccesary hardships.
The Reinvent Initiative’s rehabilitation approach is rooted in General Strain Theory, focusing on helping clients cope with life stressors during their transition from incarceration. By offering support at the time of release, we aim to reduce the risk of future recidivism.
What is the General Strain Theory?
"Developed by sociologist Robert Agnew, (GST) provides a framework for understanding the relationship between strain and criminal behavior. It posits that crime and delinquency often arise as coping mechanisms in response to stressful life events and strained social relationships." (Carter, L., EBSCO, 2024)
Where does this strain comes from?
Inability to Meet Goals (Employment, Income, Familial, Education)
Inefficient Positive Stimuli (Mental Illness, Death of Loved One, Religion)
Excessive Negative Stimuli (Bullying, Abuse, Burnout)
Gender Specific Differences/Experiences
How will acknowledging these stressors help with reintegration?
It will help pinpoint specific stressors in each individual's plan and help coordinate support for each one.
Coursework would help provide general information, update individuals on the societal status quo, and prevent unexpected stress post-release.
With help from our partners and donations, the vision is to have physical material as well to help lessen the unexpected blow of physical needs post release.
Why We Started Reinvent Initiative
Reinvent Initiative was founded to address a critical gap in rehabilitation and reentry services in Kansas. Despite existing systems, too many people returning from incarceration face overwhelming challenges with little consistent or effective support.
Our founder, with over seven years of education in Criminal Justice and professional experience in financial counseling and corrections, saw firsthand the need for a more compassionate, structured, and empowering solution.
We asked:
Are there enough rehabilitation services in Kansas?
Are they accessible, consistent, and effective?
Are people really being set up for success?
Too often, the answer was no.
Reinvent Initiative is here to change that—starting before release and continuing long after. Our holistic approach meets people where they are and walks with them toward a new future, through education, mentorship, and community support.
